At the Auberge des 21, a wedding gathers everyone in front of the Saguenay Fjord, and the whole party wakes up under the same roof for breakfast the next morning.
This small inn of 31 rooms sits in downtown La Baie, in Saguenay, facing Parc Mars and the fjord. It opened in June 1990 thanks to 21 partners from the region, and its name honours the pioneers of the Société des Vingt-et-Un who shaped the history of the region.
The inn hosts just one wedding a day. Its formula is built for at least 60 adult guests, with 30 rooms reserved for the couple and their guests so that no one outside the group stays the night, and breakfast the following morning is part of the experience for everyone staying over.
Receptions take place in the Salle Horizon, which seats up to 100, or in the Horizon joined with the Salle Café du Fjord for up to 120. The Salle Boréale suits weddings of up to 70. The Café du Fjord looks out over the fjord and Parc Mars, and the upstairs art room, La Chapelle, keeps church pews saved from a former Port-Alfred church beside its tall windows and fjord views. In summer, a terrace and an inner courtyard can host cocktails, weather permitting.
Meals are prepared on site by the inn's own team with local products. Wedding packages begin with a welcome cocktail, soup, a main course and dessert or wedding cake, and richer options add canapés, a glass of sparkling wine, wine with dinner, coffee and a late-night buffet. Bar service can be an open bar for a set block of hours, drink coupons or a cash bar.
The team looks after the room, food, bar, accommodation and breakfast, while couples bring in their own photographer, musicians, decorator or planner with advance notice. Some rooms have electric fireplaces, guests can unwind in an infrared sauna room, and the cruise terminal and the waterfront are only steps away.
For couples who picture a warm celebration with the fjord outside the window and their favourite people all staying together, the Auberge des 21 offers an intimate inn wedding that carries on into the morning after.
