Emmanuel United Church offers that experience in the heart of Waterloo, inside a historic church that warmly welcomes couples whether or not they are members of the congregation.

The Sanctuary can accommodate wedding ceremonies ranging from only a handful of loved ones to gatherings of approximately 400 people, making the church unusually flexible for celebrations of very different sizes.

For more intimate ceremonies, the Hearth Room offers another possibility.

The church works with couples to create a ceremony that reflects them, and its ministers openly welcome creative wedding services as well as same-gender marriages.

That spirit of welcome gives the historic setting a feeling that is personal rather than rigid.

Couples who would like to keep more of the wedding in one place can also use the Fellowship Hall for the reception. Depending on the layout, it can seat approximately 120 to 200 guests.

That means guests can watch the vows in the Sanctuary and then remain together for the celebration afterward rather than travelling across the city.
