Al's Steakhouse

A reception at Al's Steakhouse brings guests together around one of Ottawa's longest-standing dining tables, with charcoal-grilled steaks and a room full of history.

Al's opened on Elgin Street in July 1967, founded by Halim "Al" Saikali, and it is still run by his family today. It sits in the heart of downtown Ottawa, close to City Hall and Parliament Hill, which makes it easy to head over after an afternoon of photos around the city.

Receptions can be held in the banquet hall, which seats up to 80, or in the main dining room. Al's can host more than 100 diners for a private event, and tables, chairs, dinnerware and audio and visual equipment are part of the booking.

The kitchen is known for certified Angus beef cooked over live charcoal, fresh fish and the house garlic salad dressing. Couples can choose a set wedding menu or build their own, letting guests pick from a range of appetizers, entrées and desserts on the night, and every menu can be adjusted to their tastes.

The bar is just as flexible, with an open bar, a cash bar, a dry bar or separate cheques, along with classic cocktails and an extensive wine list. There is no charge to rent the space, and free parking is on site.
