Wander's Tiny Farm

Wander's Tiny Farm feels like a wedding that has wandered into a storybook, with farm animals for neighbours and a whole country park that becomes yours once the gates close for the evening.

East of Saskatoon, about twenty five minutes out, the farm is home to pigs and goats, cows and sheep, chickens, quail and geese, a great many rabbits and a few dogs, and every guest gets to visit them. Couples rent a fenced corner of the Farm Park that includes a green ceremony spot, tucked out of the wind and set with benches, the Play Barn and the Roasting Bin with its fireplace. Until five o'clock the rest of the park is shared with day visitors, and after that the whole place belongs to the wedding.

The Play Barn measures thirty by sixty feet and fits up to 150 people, with walls that can be opened or closed as the weather decides. Tables and chairs, a rustic bar, string lights, benches and a wedding arch come with the rental, and the couple brings their own linens and decorations, so the barn can look exactly the way they imagine it.

There is no in-house catering or bar, which past couples have loved for the freedom and the budget it gives them. A family style barbecue suits the setting beautifully. The grain bin, warmed by its fireplace, becomes a second room for quieter moments, and one wedding even turned it into a movie den for the kids.

Picture vows under open prairie sky, a lookout on a glacial ridge still wearing wild flowers, and late night talk around the fire while the barn glows behind you. That is a Wander's Tiny Farm wedding.
