Domaine Girouard

Domaine Girouard feels like a wedding kept deliberately small, a handful of the people who matter most gathered on a terrace above the vines in the Sutton valley.

The vineyard on chemin Mudgett has been planted since 2017 with Nebbiolo, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir, and the wines are made in a two-level cellar that lets gravity do the moving, then aged in terracotta amphoras, French oak and stainless steel. The domaine works with certified organic products, hand labour and natural pest control, so the setting is as thoughtful as the glass.

For a celebration, the tasting room seats 25 guests or welcomes 50 in a cocktail format, and the whole site can be rented privately, taking in the tasting space, the outdoor terrace and the vineyard itself. Guided tours run on Saturday afternoons and private tours can be arranged for groups of eight or more. Guests are welcome to picnic, with local cheeses and charcuterie sold on site, and dogs are welcome on a leash.

Imagine a late-afternoon ceremony at the edge of the rows, a cocktail on the terrace as the valley light softens, and a toast poured from wine grown a few metres away.
