The Grand Victorian

In the tiny seaside village of Victoria-by-the-Sea, an old church has found a wonderfully romantic second life.

The Grand Victorian began as a Methodist church in 1884. More than 140 years later, its historic architecture has been lovingly restored and transformed into an intimate wedding venue, where chandeliers glow beneath old ceilings, a covered verandah wraps couples in a little piece of Island charm and the harbour waits only a short walk away.

It feels almost as though the building was given another century for exactly this reason.

Couples can bring up to 120 of their favourite people together here, with the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception all able to unfold on the same property. Outside, the grounds offer a beautiful place to exchange vows beneath the PEI sky. When the weather has other ideas, the celebration can move indoors without losing the character that made you fall for the venue in the first place.

Before any of that begins, there is somewhere lovely to hide away.

Upstairs, a private three-room bridal suite gives the wedding morning its own little world. Dresses can hang, flowers arrive, music plays and the people closest to you gather around while downstairs the room slowly becomes ready for one of the biggest moments of your life.

Then comes the walk down the aisle.

Afterwards, guests can gather for cocktails on the covered verandah while the newlyweds slip away into Victoria-by-the-Sea. The village is wonderfully small, with colourful buildings, quiet streets and the harbour only minutes away, giving photographs the kind of unmistakable Prince Edward Island backdrop that could never be recreated inside a ballroom.

Then everyone finds their way back together.

The Grand Victorian has its own reception hall, commercial kitchen and bar, allowing dinner, speeches and dancing to remain part of the same celebration. Couples receive exclusive use of the property for their event, so for those precious hours the old church really does feel as though it belongs to your story.

And eventually evening settles over the village.

The verandah grows quieter. Chandeliers glow inside. Dinner plates disappear, someone begins a speech and the room that once gathered a congregation fills instead with music, laughter and everyone who came to watch two people begin married life.

Outside, the sea air moves through Victoria-by-the-Sea just as it has for generations.
