Some wedding venues have spent years learning how celebrations work.

Columbus Hall in St. John's has spent generations doing it.

Operated by Terra Nova Council 1452 of the Knights of Columbus, the facility has a long history of hosting community gatherings and today specifically offers wedding receptions, wedding planning support, catering and several configurations for celebrations of different sizes. The Council itself dates back to 1909.

That history gives Columbus Hall the feeling of a genuine gathering place rather than a room created only for photographs.

This is somewhere built around bringing people together.

For weddings, the facility can configure one or two salons depending on the celebration. Current wedding arrangements accommodate seated receptions reaching approximately 225 guests, with larger capacities possible for standing-style events.

That gives couples enough room for the kind of Newfoundland wedding where the guest list grows because family is family, old friends are still friends and somehow there is always one more person who simply has to be there.

Food is prepared through Columbus Hall's own catering operation, with a team experienced in weddings and large formal gatherings. Dietary needs can also be accommodated with advance planning.

There is something reassuring about celebrating somewhere that understands what happens once a wedding really gets going.
