There are a few weeks each year when the fields at Lavender Ridge Farm turn purple.
And if your wedding happens to fall among them, it is difficult to imagine a more romantic place to begin.
About 30 minutes west of downtown Ottawa, this private family-run farm unfolds across 80 acres of countryside, where lavender grows along the ridge, mature forest surrounds the property and pieces of its agricultural past still remain among the landscape.
At the entrance stands a restored 19th-century pioneer log cabin. Nearby are the historic remains of the farm's old dairy barn.
Then, tucked away in a secluded forest clearing, couples discover the place where the wedding happens.
A beautiful timber-frame barn rises among the trees, with handcrafted wooden beams, soaring ceilings and enormous doors connecting the celebration inside with the countryside beyond. Up to 100 guests can gather here, creating a wedding that feels full and joyful without losing the intimacy that makes a country celebration so special.
The vows can happen somewhere entirely different.
When the lavender is in season, couples can marry among rows of fragrant purple blooms, with the countryside stretching beyond them.
Or perhaps the forest feels more like you.
A peaceful tree-lined clearing offers another ceremony setting, surrounded by green rather than flowers. And because Ontario weather occasionally has its own wedding plans, the climate-controlled barn can become a beautiful indoor ceremony setting too.
Afterwards, nobody needs to leave.
Guests can gather for cocktails on the string-lit patio while the newlyweds disappear across the property for photographs.
