At JR Ranch, the wedding can begin beneath the trees and end inside a red barn glowing against the Alberta night.

Set in Lamont County outside Edmonton, the family-run ranch was created as a wedding venue by owners who wanted something that felt true to country life rather than simply decorated to look rustic.

Couples can choose among several ceremony locations, including a secluded forest setting, then gather inside the Red Barn for the reception. Both the ceremony seating and barn can accommodate up to 150 guests.

Across the property are ponds, trails, hay fields, fences, wildflowers in season and Highland cattle, giving photographs the wonderfully unpolished feeling of actually being on a ranch.

There are thoughtful little spaces too.

Converted grain bins serve as getting-ready areas, and one becomes the Highland Honeymoon Suite for the wedding night. Camping is available for guests who want to stay close, while outside vendors are welcome to help shape the day around the couple rather than the other way around.
