Homestead 1880 begins with a love story before the wedding couple even arrives.

The Kinburn property west of Ottawa has been part of the same family story since 1880. Generations later, owners Cathy and Ronnie transformed the original post-and-beam livestock barn so they could marry on the farm themselves.

Now other couples get to begin there too.

The renovated barn sits within a private rural property with multiple ceremony locations, a covered patio, rustic bar and open interior ready for dinner and dancing.

Couples receive exclusive use of the property, giving the wedding room to feel completely theirs.

There is no need for the day to rush between unrelated places.

Getting ready can happen in the farmhouse.

The ceremony can unfold outside.

Guests can settle into cocktails while the couple disappears for photographs.

Then everyone comes back to the barn.

The tables fill.

Speeches begin.

And a building restored for one family's wedding becomes the setting for another.

That may be the loveliest part of Homestead 1880.

It was not created because someone saw an empty barn and imagined an event business.

It was created because two people wanted to get married at home.

The weddings that follow simply keep the story going.
