Historic Bell Barn of Indian Head

Some wedding venues try very hard to look historic.

The Bell Barn has been part of Saskatchewan's story since 1882.

Standing outside Indian Head, this extraordinary round fieldstone barn began as part of Major William Bell's ambitious agricultural operation and today survives as one of Saskatchewan's most recognizable heritage landmarks.

It is also very much a wedding venue.

Couples can hold both indoor and outdoor weddings here, surrounded by wide prairie fields, gardens, stonework and the open Saskatchewan sky.

Inside, the loft brings exposed wooden beams together with the barn's extraordinary circular architecture. It feels rustic, but not in the manufactured sense of a newly built event barn.

The history is real.

The stone walls are real.

And the building has already been standing on this prairie for more than 140 years.

The Bell Barn provides tables and chairs for celebrations of up to approximately 200 people, along with a bar area, sound system and accessible washrooms.

Outside, couples have room to create a completely different ceremony atmosphere.

Imagine guests arriving with prairie stretching around the property.

The vows take place outdoors beneath an enormous Saskatchewan sky.

Then everyone moves inside the round barn for dinner, speeches and dancing beneath the exposed beams.

It creates a wedding that could really only belong here.

The Bell Barn is also maintained as an agricultural museum and heritage site, so choosing it for a wedding gives the celebration another layer of meaning. The building exists today because people fought to preserve and reconstruct it rather than allow an important piece of Saskatchewan history to disappear.
